What's not to love

We doh like cricket...no, no...we love it.

Another major international sporting event that means a great deal to so many. Beyond the field.

The Caribbean play host to 16 teams for two months, give or take, to crown a champion. I for one look forward to an Australia/West Indies final. A victory for the locals would give rise and confidence to regional cricket and would mean some personal sledging. A victory for the Aussies would envoke pride in my nation and humble bragging rights. I fear for the minnows and look forward to later stages.

Each island will get the chance to show off their wares, prove their organizational capacity, and take pride in their success as part of the event. Those travelling to the islands will get to enjoy the company of people I've had the pleasure to be among and mix with over the past two years.

Here in Trinidad the Indian, Sri Lanka, Bermuda and Banglahdesh will entertain the locals and try to move on to the second round in Grenada. I hope to get there to see another way of life...and watch some cricket.

Can't wait for it to start, enjoy the banter, hold an office pool, have a cold beer, watch the crowds enjoy the occasion, see a game and soak in the atmosphere. Even if cricket's not your sport, you cant help but enjoy the hive of activity and buzz surrounding this World Cup. Caribbean people are notoriously big partiers and love their cricket.

Should be a cracker. Look forward to anything it tosses up. Except an English victory.

The power of sport to bring people together, to foster such enthusiasm, good will and entertainment.

Can't beat it, Gotta love it.
